Zermatt – the carless village

This idyllic village in the foothills of the Matterhorn has become a major spa resort all year round.
Vehicles with combustion engines are not permitted in Zermatt. Horse-drawn sleighs and carriages are the only permitted means of transport, together with electric cars and bicycles.

The destination lies in the foothills of the Matterhorn, ranging from 1,600 metres (village of Zermatt) to over 3,800 metres (Klein Matterhorn excursion destination) above sea level in the Valais Alps of southern Switzerland. Coming here you pass through Visp to the source of the Matter Valley.
