GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  1. Coverage
    These general terms and conditions (GTC) rule over the legal relationship between the guest / client, named guest hereafter, and the CHALET HOTEL SCHÖNEGG. In addition, coverage extends between the guest and the SCHÖNEGG ZERMATT AG, Riedweg 35, 3920 Zermatt, in its role in marketing and sales for the CHALET HOTEL SCHÖNEGG.
  2. Conclusion of contract
    Upon the acceptance of a written, personal, electronic or phone booking and the issuing of our confirmation, a contract is concluded between the guest and CHALET HOTEL SCHÖNEGG. These general terms and conditions are an integral part of the contract. Notification by e-mail is considered as written notification.
  3. Booking conditions
    The prices communicated by the hotel are calculated in Swiss Francs (CHF) and include the legal VAT taxes. The guest is obligated to pay the agreed upon price for the rented room and additional claimed services according to their respective prices.
    This also is valid for orders of their accompanying people and visitors. An increase of legal fees/taxes after finalization of the contract must be carried by the guest. Prices in foreign currencies are approximate values and will be charged according to the daily exchange rate. Valid are the prices which were confirmed by the hotel.
    The prices may be changed by the hotel if the guest retroactively makes changes to the number of the booked rooms, services of the hotel or the duration of stay of the guests.

Valid credit card details must be supplied for all bookings not made directly through the CHALET HOTEL SCHÖNEGG or SCHÖNEGG ZERMATT AG booking office (min. date of validity must be later than planned check-out date). Fundamental requirement for all bookings is agreeing to the conditions detailed here and agreeing to the conditions detailed in the data protection declaration. In the event of non-compliance with these conditions, the CHALET HOTEL SCHÖNEGG has the right to cancel the booking without notification. Clause 4 below applies with regard to cancellation costs. Varying restrictions may apply in regard to minimum stay and/or availability depending upon the booking channel and time of booking.

  1. Cancellation and booking amendments
    a. General rules
    Cancellations or amendments are only valid when in writing and sent to the CHALET HOTEL SCHÖNEGG and a written confirmation from the CHALET HOTEL SCHÖNEGG is issued. Following deadlines apply:
    Amendments/Cancellations:

Winter: Up to 14 days before arrival are free of charge.
Summer: Up to 3 days before arrival are free of charge.
Amendments/Cancellations: up to 30 days before arrival are free of charge for all reservations between 24.12. and 06.01. (every year).
After expiry date of this deadline, the hotel is authorised to charge for the whole period of stay.
Exceptions are possible by written agreement.
Pre-payments will be refunded in the form of vouchers.
b. Cancellation date and insurance
The date of cancellation is determined as the date of receipt of the written cancellation notification by the booking office. In cases of hardship, cancellation costs can be covered by the guest’s cancellation insurance (should the guest have taken out said insurance).
c. Change of name – Replacement
Should the original booker not be able to come, the CHALET HOTEL SCHÖNEGG will accept a replacement person who must accept the existing booking under the same conditions. The replacement person must advise the CHALET HOTEL SCHÖNEGG at an early stage (at least before arrival). The guest who made the original booking remains the contractual partner and is liable.
d. Cancellation for more than 1 room
If a reservation is made for more than one room, the person who has given his consent and confirmed the reservation with his credit card details is responsible for all reservations.
e. Cancellation in the event of force Majeure
In the event of Force Majeure, e.g. political unrest, strikes, natural disasters etc, the CHALET HOTEL SCHÖNEGG may make a cancellation at short notice for safety reasons. The guest will be reimbursed for prepayments by voucher.
f. Disturbances and limited operation
Disturbances and limited operation, e.g. noise and/or limited operations do not give grounds for compensation or reimbursement.
g. «Non refundable rates» and «Prepaid rates»
Should the guest have chosen the non refundable rate, bookings only become firm once payment has been received. These bookings cannot be modified or cancelled free of charge. These bookings cannot be cancelled due to Force Majeure. In this case the CHALET HOTEL SCHÖNEGG will honour the guest a voucher of 100% of the paid amount.
h. Early Departure
Should the guest depart early, the hotel is entitled to 100% of the total amount of the booked services.

  1. Price amendments
    The CHALET HOTEL SCHÖNEGG may amend published prices in the following cases:
    • Clearly explicable printing or text errors
    • Changes in exchange rates (The CHALET HOTEL SCHÖNEGG uses the daily exchange rate)
    • Newly introduced or increased statutory charges (e.g. VAT, city tax, etc.)
    • Price changes for other reasons than the above mentioned are irrelevant to a concluded contract, no matter which way the price has changed
  2. Liability for damages
    The CHALET HOTEL SCHÖNEGG only bears liability in cases of intent or gross negligence. The CHALET HOTEL SCHÖNEGG does not accept liability for guest’s property, according to Swiss law. Claims must be lodged in writing to the CHALET HOTEL SCHÖNEGG up to 3 days after departure. Otherwise all claims are forfeited.
  3. Use of the hotel room
    The guest must use and treat the hotel room with the greatest of care. Only the number of persons stated in the contract may use the room (including children). The guest is not permitted to allow at the CHALET HOTEL SCHÖNEGG third parties to use the room. The guest is liable for any damage unless it can be proved that these have been caused through no fault of his own (e.g. fault of fellow guests). The hotel must be advised immediately of any damage.
    a. Smoking in the room
    Smoking in the room is not permitted. Please refrain from any other acts that could cause a fire in your room. Smoking in the room will result in charges to the occupying guest for at least CHF 200.00 for cleaning.
    b. Pets
    Pets require prior consent of the hotel and will be charged for. The cost is CHF 30.00 per day without food and dog bed. The guest who brings a pet to the hotel is obligated to keep the pet orderly and always looked after. A third party can watch over the pet and will be compensated by the guest. Pets are allowed in the lobby bar, the restaurant Uncorked and the Infinity Terrace. In all other public spaces, the restaurant Saveurs and wellness areas pets are forbidden.
  4. Check-in and Check-out
    Unless stated differently in an agreement between the contracting parties the earliest check-in time is 14 pm and the latest check-out time is 11 am.

Should the guest check out after 1 pm, the hotel is allowed to charge CHF 100. For the extended use of the room until 4 pm and onwards the amount of CHF 200 may be charged. Should the guest not check out at the agreed time, the hotel will take the right to remove the belongings of the guest and keep them in a suitable place at the hotel.

a. Room key

The hotel will supply the guest upon check-in with a key card which gives the guest access to the hotel 24h per day. Loss of the card must be reported immediately to the front desk or by phone at +41 27 966 34 34. A damaged card or the loss of the card will be charged with CHF 5.- in the final bill.

  1. Dress code
    It is not allowed to walk barefoot in the hotel, except in the wellness area.
    Furthermore, ski boots are not tolerated in the dining room, rooms and corridors. In the evening in the restaurant our guests are asked not to wear flip-flops, but shoes.
  2. Transfer
    Guests are picked up at the train station or taxi stand in Zermatt and driven to our Hotel by our e-taxi on arrival day until 8 pm. Guests will also be driven to Zermatt train station or taxi stand on departure day from 8 am.
  3. Applicable law and jurisdiction

All contracts concluded with the CHALET HOTEL SCHÖNEGG are governed exclusively by Swiss Law. Visp is the sole place of jurisdiction in the event of any disputes arising from such contracts.

  1. Food and Beverage/Corkage Fee
    All food and beverage items must be purchased from the hotel. Exceptions may be made (Birthday cake, wine, etc.) in written accordance with the hotel. In such cases, the hotel is entitled to apply service charges, respectively charge “corkage fees”.
  2. Lost and Found

Lost and found articles with clear ownership and knowledge of the corresponding address will be sent to the respective owner. The cost and the risk for the parcel are carried by the guest. Should ownership not be clear, the article will be kept for another 4 weeks on premises.

  1. Children rates
    On request the room can be provided with a baby bed free of charge.
    Children up to 8.99 years stay with no extra costs in their parents' room. Sofa beds or extra beds are only available on request in specially equipped rooms.
    The extra charge for children from 9 years of age is CHF 90.00 in the summer season and CHF 120.00 in the winter season including breakfast.

  2. Accepted payment
    The invoice is due at checkout latest. Following methods of payment will be accepted: cash, Maestro, Postcard, Visa, MasterCard, American Express.
    We thank you for your understanding that no personal checks can be accepted. Prior to arrival it is possible to arrange a transfer to the following bank account:

  3. Other
    City tax (exklusive)
    CHF 3.00 per adult and night (> 16 years old)
    CHF 1.50 per child and night (9-15.99 years old)
    Free of charge for children up to 8.99 years old of age
    Ski Locker
    The hotel does not assume any obligation to guard or store personal belongings or skis that are not locked in the ski room in their own compartment. Guests are therefore requested to use and lock the respective lockers.
  4. Data Protection
    The CHALET HOTEL SCHÖNEGG and the SCHÖNEGG ZERMATT AG, as marketing and sales agents, use data according to the stipulations of Swiss Law for Data Protection and the European Data Protection Laws. The uniform Data Protection Declaration is an integral part of the Terms and Conditions of Contract European Data Protection Laws.
